Vodafone Ireland broadband down

Vodafones infamously unreliable DNS servers have collapsed into a multi-hour long nationwide outage.

2026/08/29, 6:00 PM: Vodafone Ireland broadband has been down for several hours across the country, with no resolution in sight.

For years, customers have complained about Vodafone's slow and unreliable DNS servers, which have suffered partial outages resulting in slow internet browsing. Today, this has turned into a complete outage, with hundreds of complaints flooding in over several hours. Even customers who pay for the 4G failover dongle, Always Connected, have no service because it uses the same single point of failure.

Workaround: To switch your Vodafone Gigabox away from Vodafone's DNS servers and use Google DNS or Quad9, follow these steps:

  1. Your Vodafone router has a sticker showing the login credentials. Visit the router's webpage and log in using those details.
  2. At the top of the screen, switch to Expert Mode.
If Expert Mode is not visible, you are probably using a mobile device. Try using a computer instead.
  3. Go to the Internet tab, select DNS, and set it to 8.8.8.8.
On some firmware versions, the address appears as four individual boxes separated by dots. Enter 8 in each box.
  4. Click Save.
